Sample from Tumblr blog: Cool way to touch base with students.

19 10 2008

Hi, CIW exam preppers!
I hope you have had a chance to try on the CIW online assessment account (or MeasureUp account for you JavaScript gurus). Please take a few minutes to test your login. If you have trouble with it, let me know. These online assessment tools should reinforce what you are learning in your companion courses (WEB 2200, 2210, 2220, or 2300) and help you review for your CIW exam, too.

Busy week with Web 2.0

10 10 2008

I have not have a lot of time this week to devote to my wiki research, but I have had a great time on Facebook connecting with old college friends and old work colleagues. I was unaware that social networking is addictive!

I am also saving a bit of time by posting messages to my D2L courses through my Tumblr blog. Audrey taught me how to convert the blog into a widget that has been added to four of my online courses. I can make sure that all of these 4 classes “hear” exactly the same thing from me. Since I can type once and post to 4 places, I find that I am blogging new messages more frequently. Web 2.0 has increased my “news” contact with students.

Elluminate session on Web 2.0

3 10 2008

Yesterday, I participated in Audrey’s Web 2.0 Elluminate session. Several of us at PSTCC gathered online to discuss what we’ve been doing as a result of our Web 2.0 “course.” It was fun and interesting. I am excited about using this edublog, my tumblr blog, my Facebook account, my renewed del.icio.us account. There’s loads to learn and explore. I wish I had more time. Now that my AHEAD class (the fast track 5-week type of course) is over for this semester, I’ll have more time to look and learn. I have been consumed with prepping, creating assessments and tests, grading, and everything else that goes with teaching an accelerated course.

I’m researching wikis as a teaching tool. I’ll post more as I figure out what I’m doing.

First Lesson Learned

20 09 2008

My first post is dated October 2006, but I edited an old comment from then and the date didn’t update. My first learning experience with blogs is: don’t edit previous blogs, add new ones. Got it.

All Set to Explore Web 2.0

24 10 2006

I’m ready to go! I created this blog in October, 2006, and nearly 2 years later, I’m finally using it.

As I create a new wiki module for use in my JavaScript course, I’ll write about the process, my thinking about it, and how students respond to this adventure.
